Movie Reviews

So many things going on this time of year.  Just a quick couple of reviews for some more current stuff.

As I continue to wade my way through a DVR filled with movies from the last free weekend on DISH, I’ll do quick reviews on more recent movies.  Plus I actually went out and saw something brand new!  None of them great but all of them interesting.

Spectre (2015) – I’ve read the books and seen almost all the movies.  Call this one a mid-level Bond.  It never felt like it really ever jelled.  SPECTRE is one of the two great enemy organizations created by Ian Fleming.  The movie manages to waste it here.  The story line connecting Bond and Blofeld is just lame.  A waste of Christoph Waltz.  Not terrible.

Rating – *** Worth A Look

The Maze Runner (2014) – A world where young people are tested in a walled in Eden surrounded by a seemingly impeneterable maze.  I enjoyed this one.  Ending leaves some people cold and I can kind of understand that.  Clearly just leading up to the next installment.  I’d have preferred if they had made more of an effort to wrap the story up more.  A huge hit last year.

Rating – ***1/2 Worth A Look Almost Recommended

The Hunger Games – Mockingjay Part 1 (2014) – Having destroyed the Hunger Games, Katniss is now becoming the face of the insurgency against Capital City.  A solid continuation of the series. Another huge hit, it ends in a peculiar place as they split the book into two movies.  The story continues to explore the choices that have to be made for Katniss both personally and to the larger community.

Rating – ***1/2 Worth A Look Almost Recommended
