You will see with some regularity reviews for books published by the folks at The Story Plant. They are an independent publisher of fiction, based in New York City. Founded in 2008, they have a respect for their authors that I appreciate. I’m happy to be associated with them.
A couple years ago I was invited to join a program now called “Spread the Word”. It’s a program that asks for honest reviews of the books they publish. I receive ARCs (Advance Reader Copies) of the books with the expectation that I will review them.
I am under no constraint as to what my review says. My personal standard is that I will always give my honest opinion of anything submitted. That has resulted in a couple reviews where I was not enthused about the books provided. The Story Plant has been open to those reviews, although I’m certain they don’t worry too much about them. At the same time I’ve been introduced to, and therefore able to introduce to you, some wonderful authors.
I know some folks look askance at this kind of relationship, thinking that the quality of review will be compromised. All I can assure you is that if I like the book I will tell and if I don’t, with all respect for the hard work of the author, I will tell you that I don’t like it.
You will also notice that I do not include in every The Story Plant review the disclaimer that I received the book as an ARC. If I have a book prior to its publishing date I assume the reader is intelligent enough to know that I didn’t steal it. They are ARCs.
I’m happy to assist the team at The Story Plant bring more books from quality authors to market.
