Book – Son of the Revolution

Son of the Revolution by K. Orion Fray (2017) – In a dystopic future not all that far away, some human beings have been changed.  A government experiment didn’t go the way they expected and a portion of the population was transformed into the semblance of vampires and werewolves.  Now someone connected to the government has decided to correct the situation.  Permanently.  Alistair Clarimond and a small group of friends will try to save themselves and others like them in a race against an unknown enemy.

I will be perfectly transparent right up front.  K. Orion Fray is not only my editor but also has been referred to on this blog as “The Kid”.  Rion is my child.  Also my personal writing nag and inspiration.  I will be as honest as I can be.

This is a debut novel from a writer who has been telling stories all of their life.  “Son of the Revolution” is a fine thriller but it’s also an examination of what it means to be “other” in society.  The characters are consistent, believable and have depth.  Alistair finds himself in the unenviable situation of wanting to simply fade into the background while being required to move into the spotlight.  He has no idea what is going on except that everyone keeps turning to him for leadership.  And people he loves keep getting dragged into the mess with him.

The storytelling is tight and the story moves along with just the right feel of things racing just ahead of control.  “Son of the Revolution” delivers a great “New Adult” read that readers of many ages will enjoy.

If I had to quibble (and I always have to quibble), the book seemed a little heavy with pop culture references.  But being well outside the target demo may have something to do with that issue.

Why You Will Like It – A fun, fast read with characters you will care about.

“Son of the Revolution” is available as both an e-book and paperback.  You can find the e-book at most major online retailers, and the paperback through Amazon or CreateSpace.  Check out Rion’s writer’s page (link on the name at the top)
