Something New For The New Year!

2020 is FINALLY behind us!

What a rotten year, in so many ways for so many people.  So with a bright, shiny new year sitting in front of us, filled with promise and potential, I thought I’d make a few changes here at The View From The Phlipside.

I am still hoping to have a big project to unveil in the next couple months, but I don’t want to jinx myself.  So just a few smaller adjustments.

The movie posts are getting a little extra shine this year.  Two changes that are designed to help you decide if the movie is one you want to see.  Given my format (not going into great detail about the story, trying to keep the reviews short and to the point), I want to make sure you have the best feel for whether the movie interests you.  So here’s what I’m trying for this year. The post titles will serve as headlines instead of just noting the movie title. A quick summary of what’s coming.  The second is a link to a movie trailer for each film.  There is a treasure trove of trailers out there, even for some obscure titles!  So after you read my review you can take a couple minutes to get a better idea of what the movie looks and sounds like.

I’m hoping you’ll appreciate the additions.

Beyond that, much remains the same.  Enough about the story so you can decide if it sounds interesting. I hate reviews that feel the need to do a complete recap of the entire plot. A brief summary of what I think is interesting about the movie.  What works, what doesn’t.  Any interesting tidbits about the movie, cast or production.  My one line “What I Liked About It” summary and a rating based on my five star standard.  If you wonder how I categorize the movies into that system check out the  “Review Policy” tab at the top of the page.

In just a couple minutes you should be able to decide if this is the movie for you.  I’m already a couple months into this year’s reviews.  Each month I try for a spread of genres of movies, decades of filmmaking history, and categories of films.  So from silent movies to the latest CGI releases.  Comedies, Westerns, foreign films, thrillers, mysteries, biopics, dramas, crime, noir, and whatever else wanders across my path.  I’ve reviewed 568 movies as of today, and I’m always looking for something different.  If you have a movie to recommend, please drop me a note in the comments!  And feel free to agree or disagree with what you read.  I can be convinced, if your argument is good enough.  But I also enjoy talking about movies with other film fans.

In the meantime, have a very Happy New Year!
