Liam Neeson Doing Liam Neeson Things

The Commuter (2018) – A family man (and ex-cop) in financial troubles
is offered a lifeline for doing a simple task while riding on his
commuter train home. The task turns out to be far more complicated
than expected.

Director: Jaume Collet-Serra                 Starring: Liam Neeson, Patrick
Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Sam Neill

Why I Liked It: Liam Neeson doing Liam Neeson things.

Is it just me or does Liam Neeson keep doing the same movie over
and over? A good man caught up in the plans of bad people who uses
his “special skills” to overcome the enemy? He’s a family man
here who left his police career behind under a bit of cloud. After
years working for a HEARTLESS CORPORATION, they cut him loose, and he
doesn’t know how to tell his wife. When someone offers him enough
money to carry them along a little farther to find a stranger on the
train, it seems easy.

It. Seems. Easy.

Am I the only one who yells at characters on the screen when they
do dumb things like this? When a strange woman offers you thousands
of dollars to do something “simple” you want to run away. Far and
fast. Just Say No. Go home, tell your wife you lost your job and
start working out a plan. Do not take that money.

But he does, they all do. And then things get…complicated. In
the usual Liam Neeson movie kind of way. Neeson grumbles his way
through the dialogue in his unmistakable fashion, he’s desperate to
save his loved ones and relentlessly hunts down the people behind it
all.

The movie is predictable but still fun. Good acting, solid
directing make up for the Neeson shaped cookie cutter plot. Perfect
for a rainy/snowy afternoon.

Rating: *** Worth A Look
