So What's Going On Here?

For those who have followed this blog over the years, you know that every so often I get bored with the look here.  I begin to fiddle around and eventually land on something.  I imagine that if you happen to drop by on the day(s) I’m playing around the effect could be bizarre.  Images appear and disappear.  Fonts change, colors change, then everything changes back again!

This time the change should be bigger than just the looks.  For many years, this was the blog associated with my program on WRFA-FM LP in Jamestown.  I’d post scripts and eventually moved to podcasts of the programs for each week.  A couple years back the program ran out of interest for me.  I’d done it for over a decade, and I was ready to move on.

Which left the problem of what to do with the blog?  I’d included my movie reviews here for years, so I just kept using it for that.  Without any change in branding, appearance or concept.  It’s been bothering me with increasing intensity during the pandemic.  Maybe this is a sign that I’m emerging from the ‘rona malaise.  But it felt like time to move on.

I like the name, “The View From The Phlipside”, so I’m keeping that.  This blog will continue to reflect my personal views on…whatever.  I’ve changed the tagline (what blogger boringly calls the “description”) to “A Journal of My Life and Loves”.  Thus, the movie reviews will continue.  I love the movies.  New movies, old movies, classic movies, awful movies.  The concept remains the same as well.  Short (usually under 700 words) reviews from the movie fan’s point of view.  If you want in-depth analysis of the movies, I’m not your guy.  That’s why my response to the tldr crowd is a line called “Why I Liked It.”

Beyond that this new direction gives me a place to talk about some of the things I enjoy in life.  It gives me a place to get my “grump” on about some of what feels like nonsense in the world.  Bicycle, travel, food, life, the universe and everything will be the fields I will explore.  The one part of my life that won’t show up too often are my creative outlets.  Writing, photography, and most recently, water color painting are all covered on my OTHER blog “Stories Are My Life”  I’d love it if you visited both regularly.

So where is all this headed?  Got me.  Over the last decade my predictions for what was going to happen to me have been nowhere near the reality of my life.  This future is always shrouded in fog.  Our choices are to stay in one place, hoping that we are safe in the middle of the road.  Or we can move forward to explore what is just beyond our vision.  There are dangers to either choice.  I’d rather be an active participant in my future, not passively waiting for whatever will come roaring out of the fog to flatten me.  Tried it, no stars, do not recommend.

I hope you’ll journey along with me.  I’m planning on enjoying myself.  I hope you will too.

Peace,

Jay
