So many things going on right now, I haven’t had the chance to get out with the camera for some new adventures. Thus, we dip back into the archives of photos for something beautiful and I hope interesting!
A few years back (wow, TEN!) I had the chance to travel to Italy with a group of young people. We had an incredible adventure, and I got a (probably) once in a lifetime chance to shoot in the amazing cities and towns of Italy. We visited Rome, Florence, Greccio, Manarola, Vernazzo, and Sienna. Any one of them would take days to fully explore, but I rarely had more than a few hours. I grabbed what I could and moved on to the next amazing location.

It’s not possible to visit the many historic cities and not spend time looking at architecture. There are buildings built on top of buildings (both literally and metaphorically), and the styles do likewise. I don’t remember which cathedral this was.

You also can not escape sculpture. This is one of the most famous sculptures in the world, and it stunned me when first saw it. Michaelangelo’s “David” is fabulous. He stands alone, under his own dome and skylight. There is an intensity in his face here that grabbed my attention.

More architecture! This is in Rome. I grew up near a city of rivers, and live in one centered on a river. As a result, I have an affection for bridges.

I know I’ve shared this one before, but it is one of my proudest images. This is the seaside village of Manarola, part of the “Cinque Terre“, an historic area on the northwest coast of Italy. If you told me I could only re-visit one part of this trip, it would be these fabulous villages. I swam in the lagoon shown in the lower right portion of the photo. A wonderful part of the trip.

This is from Vernazza, another Cinque Terre village. Like so many parts of the places we visited, Vernazza is filled with little side streets that lead…well, you won’t know till you follow the path! I love the colors and textures in this image.
Every time I look at these pictures, I am thrilled at the memory of being there. I hope you enjoyed just a few of those memories.
Peace
Jay
