I find myself in a midsummer slump on the creative front.

from the Library of Congress
Full transparency requires the admission that I’ve done close to nothing creative for a month now. I have my drawing group every other week (which is a huge lift for me mentally, and keeps me from collapsing into a creative zero), and nothing else. I’m getting out on the bicycle (including a surprise purchase of my first “new new” bike in fifty years!), and the miles are on a steady rise.
Part of the issue is the weather. High summer in south-central Virginia is hot and humid. That combination sucks the life out of me, which makes getting the creative juices flowing even harder. The good news is that I’m feeling better, and my creative energies have crept above a trickle. I WILL have something new to share next week, and I’m focused on getting some serious momentum going as I head back into the school portion of the year.
It’s that moment in a movie when the plane has gone into what will surely be its final dive. The air is screaming past the wings and cockpit. The pilot desperately pulls on the wheel or stick with every ounce of energy, while someone screams in his earphones:
“PULL UP, PULL UP, PUUUUUUUULLLLL UUUUUUUUPPPPPP!”
At the last possible instant, the plane finds the lift it needs and levels off before screaming back into the sky.
I hope that is where I am right now. I can feel my wings catching some lift, plane is coming back under my control, it will respond to my need to fly.
And then we’ll fly off into the sunset, or sunrise, or just into the clear blue sky to create another day.
THE END!

Next week, not one but two small but important bits of creative lift to share with you.
