Why I Liked It – A Mediocre Movie With Just
Enough To Hold Your Interest.

A zombie infection on Mars sums up pretty much
everything you need to know about this one. There’s no big name in
the cast, it’s done on a modest budget. On the whole, it’s not
bad. What it is is predictable, with adequate acting and direction
that doesn’t get in the way.

As the final day of their tour of duty on Mars
arrives, with nothing of particular interest to report when they get
home, a last-minute check turns up something interesting. It’s an
infection that turns humans into horrible monsters that want to kill
the other humans. As always when this trope shows up my question is
“Why”? It’s not that they are driven to be insane, wild animal
versions of themselves. While destructive, the altered humans still
solve problems as they try to kill their former fellows. What’s the
survival benefit of wanton destruction? There’s never an answer,
just screaming and dying. There’s no better answer offered here
either.

Some serious parallels to the “Alien” series.
Humans in a remote place facing implacable killers, and who must make
sure the aliens don’t escape to destroy Earth. While “Alien”
never answers the question of why either, it does a superior job in
storytelling, direction and acting.

So if it’s a dull weekend, and you’ve nothing
better to do, there are worse choices than “Last Days on Mars”.
But don’t feel bad if something else lures you away. A few
interesting bits scattered a bunch through an otherwise mediocre
movie.

Rating – ** Not Impressed

If only the movie were this interesting.
